Get all of the team news, manager comments, ticket news and odds as Gills prepare for the trip to Essex
COLCHESTER V GILLINGHAM
Sky Bet League One
Weston Homes Community Stadium
Saturday September 19
Kick-Off, 3pm
Team News:
Deji Oshilaja (knee) is Gillingham’s only absentee ahead of the club’s short trip to Essex. The defender missed last weekend’s match against Blackpool and will need another week to recover.
Max Ehmer is therefore likely to partner John Egan at the back.
Aaron Morris (hamstring) played 60 minutes in the club’s development match against Bournemouth on Wednesday afternoon and came through unscathed.
As for Colchester they will be without experienced defender George Elokobi who is suspended. Striker Chris Porter (ankle) is unlikely to return until next week but recent additions Marvin Sordell and Jamie Jones are in contention to make their home debuts.
Manager Comments:
Justin Edinburgh – “We will give them the respect that they quite clearly deserve but I always concentrate on ourselves and how we can influence the game.”
“It’s another game that we look forward to; we will have a great following.”
Previous Meetings:
The clubs last met at MEMS Priestfield Stadium in March when a Doug Loft strike deep into stoppage time rescued a point for Gillingham in a 2-2 draw.
In the reverse fixtures the Gills recorded a 2-1 win with Bradley Dack and Joe Martin grabbing both goals before half time.
In total the two clubs have met on 80 occasions with very little to choose between the teams – they have both recorded 27 wins each with the remaining 26 being a draw.
