GAFFER: WE WERE WORTHY WINNERS

Gills boss reacts to Saturday's 2-1 win over Blackpool at Priestfield

Justin Edinburgh described Saturday’s 2-1 win over Blackpool as `a fantastic result. `

Doug Loft and Bradley Dack were both on target as the Gills consolidated their position at the top of Sky Bet League One.

An own goal from Ryan Jackson early in the second half had given the visitors a chance of claiming a point but Dack bagged his sixth league goal of the campaign to seal the points.

Following the game Justin said: “We knew it would be a difficult game, Blackpool played with a 4-5-1 to compact the midfield where we like to get the ball play in good areas and pockets.

“I thought we started the game ever so well, got the one goal but I always felt we needed that second to maybe open Blackpool up and bring them onto us.

“All in all I think we were worthy of the win, we’ve shown good patience in the last couple of home games because this group have earned the right for people to respect them and that’s what we are witnessing and getting right now.

“This is not the worst side we have played this season, they were well organised and I thought it was a fantastic result and a very good three points.

“We will enjoy tonight and enjoy that winning feeling because it’s becoming a really good habit and you don’t want to let that go because it can quickly be taken away from you.

“We’ll get back to work on Monday and concentrate on Colchester.”
