WRIGHT DELIGHTED WITH NEW GILLS DEAL

Gills midfielder pleased to be remaining at the club

Josh Wright says he is now fully focused on his Football after agreeing a deal with the Gills until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old put pen to paper on a Friday afternoon on a new contract having agreed a short term deal prior to the start of the campaign, and having done that he is now eager to do his part in keeping the Gills at the top end of the league table.

Speaking exclusively to Gills PlayerHD he said: “I was delighted, at the end of the day I’ve been here for a while so it wasn’t as if I had just come in on Friday. I’ve loved it since the first day and I haven’t looked back, the boys have welcomed me along with the fans and the staff.

“And considering we have been doing well and been top of the table it’s made it all the better and I can’t wait to kick on.

“Gillingham gave me my chance and I have to thank them for that and you have to show loyalty. The offer from the MLS was there, they were saying this and saying that but I wasn’t ready.

“I wasn’t focused on anywhere else. This was the only club I wanted to be at, I was more than happy when it gone done and hopefully we can put that to one side and concentrate on moving forward.”

Wright says despite the defeat to Colchester at the weekend the club have made a terrific start and the players need to remain upbeat if they want to achieve success.

He added: “We all knew at some point that we would lose a game but in terms of chances we should have had a draw but it’s about how we react now and we look forward to the next game.

“It’s been a fantastic start and it just shows what you can do if you galvanise a group, be together and work hard for each other.

“That’s what we’ve got, it’s a young group but that’s not to say you can’t do anything because we have a good spirit and we need to keep that going and listen to the gaffer and the staff.”
