Gills midfielder in contention for Sky Bet League One Player of the Year
Gillingham FC are delighted to announce that Bradley Dack was today unveiled as a nominee for the Sky Bet League One Player of the Year prize at the Football League Awards.
The 22-year-old midfielder, whose 15 goals and 10 assists this season have helped the Gills into the division’s play-off places, is up against Walsall's Romaine Sawyers and Nicky Ajose (Swindon Town) for the award.
“Obviously it's an honour to be nominated for Player of the Year,” said Dack. "But I couldn't have done it without the help of all my team-mates.
“I want to also thank the staff and the manager for helping me this season, and let's hope we have a good end to the season and make sure we make the play-offs."
The Sky Bet Player of the Year Awards were voted for by managers of each division's clubs; all those from League One were asked to list their top five players from this season in order, with the votes added up and the top three forming the shortlist.
Gills manager Justin Edinburgh added: “For me he’s the best player in this league by a long way, he’s proved that throughout my time here.
“He is an infectious player - the leading scorer and leading assist provider, probably the catalyst of the team as well.”
Dack, who recently returned to first-team action having been sidelined by a hamstring injury, was this month voted the division’s best player – and sixth in the entire Football League – by FourFourTwo magazine.
The winner will be announced at the Football League Awards ceremony, which takes place in Manchester on Sunday night (April 17th). A live broadcast of the event will be available on The Football League's YouTube channel from 8.45pm.
Previous victors include Joe Garner (2015), Jordan Rhodes (2012) and Craig Mackail-Smith (2011).
