DACK WINS LEAGUE ONE PLAYER OF THE YEAR AT THE FL AWARDS

Gillingham midfielder claims award at Sunday night's Manchester ceremony

Gillingham midfielder Bradley Dack was deservedly crowned Sky Bet League One's Player of the Year at the Football League Awards in Manchester on Sunday evening.

The 22-year-old midfielder, whose 15 goals and 10 assists this season have helped the Gills into the division’s play-off places, beat Walsall's Romaine Sawyers and Nicky Ajose (Swindon Town) to the award.

“It's a massive honour to win this award,” said Dack.”I owe a lot to my dad and mum – she's watching at home I think!

“Manager Justin Edinburgh has been massive for me since he came in, he showed faith in me, so I owe a lot to him.

“We've had a great start to the season, nobody expected us to be where we are, we now want to go and finish the job.”

The Sky Bet Player of the Year Awards were voted for by managers of each division's clubs; all those from League One were asked to list their top five players from this season in order, with the votes added up and the top three forming the shortlist.

Previous victors of the League One Player of the Year award include Joe Garner (2015), Jordan Rhodes (2012) and Craig Mackail-Smith (2011).

Dack, who recently returned to first-team action having been sidelined by a hamstring injury, was also named in the Football League's Team of the Season, which comprises the best 11 players from all three divisions.

His individual award comes weeks after he was voted the division's best player – and sixth in the entire Football League – by FourFourTwo magazine.

Gillingham Football Club chairman Paul Scally, the club's management, players and staff would like to congratulate Dack on his award.
