WOMENS AND GIRLS UPDATE 27

Weekly update of what has been happening at the club this week......

GILLS LADIES FALL TO FIRST HOME DEFEAT IN THE LEAGUE

Gillingham Ladies welcomed MK Dons LFC to Chatham Town FC in the FA Women’s Premier League on Sunday, April 10 for their third game in seven days. Manager Jack Wheeler made just one change with Chelsea Wallace returning to the starting lineup in place of Ashleigh Loosemore.

Gills Ladies started the game well and took an early lead in the third minute through Jade Keogh but just after half an hour the away side drew level when a free kick was drilled into the penalty area and the ball was headed into the bottom corner by Charley Clarke. Gillingham had chances to take the lead but it was MK Dons LFC that took the lead mid-way through the second half. Gills Ladies had a late chance to get an equaliser through Kallie Balfour but the shot went just wide and the game ended 2-1 to MK Dons LFC.

Gills Ladies next welcome Cambridge LFC in the FA Women’s Premier League on Sunday, April 17. Good luck girls.

“THEY KICK”– SHE KICKS WOMEN’S FOOTBALL MAGAZINE

She Kicks magazine had given the opportunity for five passionate FA Women’s Premier League fans to answer five questions about what is great about their team and the league. One of the lucky fans was Gills Ladies number 1 fan Bethany and she gave some lovely answers to the questions that were printed in the recent edition of the magazine.

The players did not let the disappointment of losing the game to MK Dons LFC stop them putting a huge smile on the face of their number 1 fan. They all took time out after the match to sign Bethany’s copy of the magazine.

GIRLS CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

Congratulations to Gills U17s GK, Katie Start who has been called-up to represent England in the upcoming Women U17 UEFA Finals in Belarus next month.

After an unbeaten qualification in the Elite Round in Serbia last month England have been drawn against Norway, Belarus and Serbia, while Group B contains Italy, Czech Republic, Germany and holders Spain.
Last time out England finished 4th and they will be looking to better this as the top three progress to the World Cup taking place in Jordan in September.

Well done from all at the Gills and good luck to Katie and the squad at the Finals.

Thank you to Faversham Town Youth FC for hosting our U15s and FC Sutton Dynamo for joining our U17s at home at the weekend, two very good games and played in a great spirit.

Good luck to our U17s who face Millwall this Saturday in their last league game of the season, while our U13s and U15s travel to Oxford FA for an out of region fixture, good luck girls.
