The Gills manager previews Saturday’s Sky Bet League One game against Shrewsbury Town.
Gillingham manager Justin Edinburgh spoke to the press ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet League game against Shrewsbury Town at Greenhous Meadow.
Edinburgh on…the match: “We’re back to the most important games - league ones. We want to get back to producing good performances in that competition; performances that I expect of the group, and performances we expect of ourselves.
“We fell short of those standards at Scunthorpe. So Saturday’s game is important, because of our previous league result.“
Edinburgh on…Shrewsbury: “We know it’s going to be tough, Shrewsbury have been active in the transfer market throughout the summer, they’ve made a lot of signings, so I’m sure they’re still finding their feet, just as we are.
“We know what they’re capable of. Micky [Mellon, Town’s manager] has been there a few years now, so I think he feel he’s better equipped for this season. They had a good result last week [beating Chesterfield] and, reading from afar, I know he was happy with their performance at Sunderland in the week. Like us, they’ve given a good account of themselves against Premier League opposition. We went there last year, played very well and were very much disappointed we didn’t win the game.”
Edinburgh on…any potential transfer activity: “I feel that we’re probably going to need another centre-half and another striker, because of Joe Quigley’s injury. We’re looking to strengthen before the window - we may need to ask for special dispensation to extend it because of the injuries we’ve had!”
