Disappointment for Gills Ladies in FA WPL Plate

Gillingham Ladies welcomed Newcastle Utd WFC to Chatham Town FC in the FA WPL Plate on Sunday, January 31 for their first home game since late November.

There was plenty of action in the first half but neither team could break the deadlock then early in the second half Newcastle Utd WFC took the lead and within 15 minutes were 3-0 up. However, Gills Ladies continued to push forward to try and get back into the game but unfortunately they were unable to capitalise on a number of chances. Gills Ladies go out of the FA WPL Plate at the quarter final stage.

Girls Centre of Excellence

Thank you to FC Sutton Dynamo who hosted our U17s in a friendly last weekend, the management, players and parents made the girls very welcome and it was a very rewarding exercise. The girls relished the opportunity to play against a boys team and we will be looking to host the team at our home ground before the end of the season.

Unfortunately the remaining squads games were cancelled due to the heavy rain but all squads will be back in action this Saturday as we travel to Oxford Utd to compete in a tri-tournament with the hosts and Hampshire FA, good luck girls.

Next month will see our last FREE Coaches Open Evening of the season. Technical Director Mark Patterson will host the evening and invites coaches to watch him put on a session with our U13s on ‘Pressing and Regain’. Before the session Mark will talk through the points of the session and the outcomes expected and giving coaches the opportunity to ask questions.

Girls Academy

This term the girls are covering Sports Nutrition, the term is split into three units covering the Digestive System, Sports Performance and Dietary Analysis and have been busy learning about healthy diets and how food can affect their performances. After a morning of study Monday afternoons are normally spent in the gym stretching and recovering after their weekend matches. As the sun was out this week the girls were tasked with a team building exercise and split in to two groups to plan a 45 minute walk. The teams had to plan their route to see who could get the furthest from the club and back again in the allotted time. The rest of the week is then split between studying and training at the 1st Team training ground with Gills favourite Ian Cox.

We are currently recruiting for the Academy for next season, to find out more please click here.
