Canterbury Road Primary School claim victory in the club’s latest Half-time Shoot-out fixture.
Our recent home games against Peterborough Utd saw a very exciting encounter between Canterbury Road Primary School and Saxon Way Primary School, as both schools looked to progress to the quarter finals of the competition.
As the Gills and Peterborough walked down the tunnel at the end of the first half the schools proudly walked on to the Priestfield pitch and began their warm-up.
Each of the players had just seven seconds to score from the edge of the D and can choose to either dribble in and take the keeper on or simply fire a shot at goal. The keepers were allowed to move off their line as soon as the whistle sounds and put the striker under pressure meaning that both have to think and react fast.
The shoot-out got off to an eventful start as Saxon Way missed their first penalty after a fantastic save from the Canterbury Rod keeper. Canterbury Road was able to take advantage, sliding the ball into the bottom corner from a great strike. The game then levelled up as Saxon Way scored their next and denied Canterbury Road their second. Both teams scored their next penalty but the Canterbury Road keeper again pulled of an amazing save to put them back in control of the fixture and this time they didn’t let the lead slip and calmly slotted home for victory.
Well done to both teams for their brilliant efforts and congratulations to Canterbury Road Primary School on progressing to the Quarter Finals taking place later in the season.
Our next Half-Time-Shoot-Out competition will take place on Saturday 6th February when Gillingham face Swindon Town at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium.
