GILLS SIGN PREMIER LEAGUE FORWARD

AFC Bournemouth striker Joe Quigley joins on loan

Gillingham FC have today completed the signing of highly-rated AFC Bournemouth striker Joe Quigley on loan until the end of January.

The 19-year-old, who progressed through the south coast side’s academy before turning professional in April 2015, spent parts of last season on loan at Wrexham and Woking.

Quigley, who was voted the Cherries’ young player of the 2014/15 season, has joined the club until the end of January.

“It’s a great challenge for me,” he said. “I’ve come here to help the team get into the Championship while scoring as many goals as I can.

“I’d say I’m a target man upfront, but I like the ball at my feet and bringing team-mates into play.  I love battles with defenders.

“I gained a lot from the physical side of non-league football while on loan at Wrexham and Woking; it’s a good step up from under-21 and development team level, and I believe that will serve me well in League One.”

Commenting on Quigley’s arrival, Gills manager Justin Edinburgh said: “Joe is technically very, very good. It’s a step-up for him as he’s only had experience of the Conference, but that’s a really tough division.

“He knows what level of physicality to expect in League One, but I fully expect him to be able to make an impact on games.

“His size, stature and presence are things we didn’t have upfront last year. I’ve got a really high opinion of him; he’s got a bright future ahead.”

Quigley becomes the fourth summer signing this week, following the arrival of Lee Martin and Scott Wagstaff on two-year deals, and defender Deji Oshilaja on loan.
