WEST KENT SCHOOL FINALS

Last week the Community Trust attended the West Kent Girls Cup Finals.

As part of Gillingham FC’s continued commitment to girl’s football in the county, the GFC Community Trust have partnered with a number of schools in West Kent to support and sponsor the annual Girls Cup Finals.

Community Trust, Female Football Development Officer, Georgia Bowie said: “It’s our third year sponsoring the Finals and it’s fantastic to see it grow and develop each year. We’ve been fortunate enough to work with a number of the schools and players through our Female Football Development (FFD) programme and the finals really are a celebration of all the hard work going in to develop the game for the female player.”

Schools from across West Kent entered teams in the U13 and U15 school leagues before Christmas which culminated in two finals last week. Georgia attended the finals to cheer on the teams and was also on hand to present the medals and trophies to the winners and runners-up.

The U13s GFC Community Trust Shield was competed for by teams from Tonbridge Grammar School and Tunbridge Wells Girls' Grammar School. It was a high intensity final with lots of effort and commitment from both teams but it was Tonbridge Grammar who delivered a dominant performance to be crowned winners.

Some excellent football was played and all the players enjoyed their afternoon at Tonbridge Angels FC, Longmead Stadium.

Congratulations to the winners and runners-up and thank you to all the schools who took part and for making it another successful competition.

Founder of the West Kent Girls Cup, Joe Cumber added: “Thank you to the Trust for their continued support of the competition, the girls really do appreciate your support.”
