EDINBURGH: LET’S BUILD ON WALSALL POINT

Gills manager Justin Edinburgh talks to the press ahead of Saturday's Charlton game

Gillingham manager Justin Edinburgh urged his players to build on Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against Walsall when they face Charlton at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium on Saturday.

The Addicks head to ME7 for their first competitive game there since 2009, having lost and drawn on their previous two visits to Kent, dating back to the Gills’ memorable FA Cup victory 12 years ago.

Edinburgh's full press conference is available exclusively on GillsPlayer.

Edinburgh on…the match: “I’ve not been involved with a game against Charlton before, but I’ve had a few with Millwall now and I expect a similar match in terms of the atmosphere and the intensity. We’re at home, so that will be a big lift for everyone, and we’re looking forward to it. We want a good performance and to get the right result.”

Edinburgh on…building on Tuesday’s Walsall draw: “Tuesday’s performance and result gives us an opportunity to go into this game with more confidence. We want to get back to winning ways, we want to put smiles on people’s faces. Somewhere along the line we had to put an end to the run of [four-consecutive] defeats, and we did that against Walsall. Hopefully in a few weeks’ time, we’ll recognise the Walsall game as the catalyst for a good run that followed.”

Edinburgh on…team selection: “We lose Scott Wagstaff through injury, which is unfortunate, and we’ve got two suspensions through Josh [Wright] and Deji [Oshilaja]. Just when we think you’ve cracked it [team selection], something comes back to disrupt you. Suspensions we cannot do anything about; we have to adapt and get on with it.

“But we have a talented squad; those who start and everybody on the bench will be ready for the game.”
