The school was also presented with a signed Gills shirt
Former Canterbury Academy pupils and current Gills youth team players Bradley Stevenson and Sam Lawford went back to school this month for the Academy’s Sports Awards evening.
The boys were on hand to present the award for KS3 Team of the Year, and they also presented their former school with a signed Gills shirt too.
Joining Bradley and Sam at the event was a special guest – Olympic gold medallist Hannah Macleod from the Team GB hockey team. She also handed out awards and did a speech to inspire pupils at the school.
The presentation was part of the Gills’ partnership with the school, running our joint Post-16 Canterbury Football Academy.
Gills Community Trust Coach Dean Grant, who is based at the school, said of the evening: “It's always a pleasure to attend the school’s Sports Awards evening. Achievements for students throughout some schools can go unnoticed, but at Canterbury Academy they take pride in celebrating achievements through the primary and secondary schools.
“It was good to bring back two of the school’s success stories in Brad and Sam too. They enjoyed being back at their old stomping ground equally as much as the staff at the school were happy to see two familiar, if slightly more grown up, faces!”
Well done to all of the students who won awards on the night.
