GILLS TO HOST GIRLS FOOTBALL DAY

Join us for a friendly football tournament

This half-term, the Gillingham Football Club Community Trust are holding a Girls Football Day on Wednesday, February 15 at Victory Academy in Chatham.

We are inviting local girls U10/U11 grassroots teams from across Kent to join us for a friendly football tournament, running from 10am – 1pm.  The day is set to be a fun-filled session, with the tournament running alongside games, prizes and refreshments for participants and spectators.  The focus of the day will be on fun and participation – it’s a chance for young female teams to enjoy being part of football tournament in a no-pressure environment.

Alongside the fun and games, there will also be a chance for participants to meet some Gills footballing role models, including Gillingham FC Ladies’ goalkeeper, and England U17s International, Katie Startup, who will be there on the day to speak to and inspire the participants.

Tournament organiser Georgia Bowie said: “the day is all about encouraging and supporting the development of female football in Kent, as part of us increasing our wider work within the community and grassroots clubs. The tournament is all about fun rather than winning, so it’s a great idea for teams that are new or need more experience of playing other teams.”

After the morning’s tournament, the teams can also stay to watch our Post-16 Gillingham FC Girls Academy team play against visiting French team Lille Association U19s, kicking off at 3.30pm.  The match is part of a developing a partnership with the French side to support the progression of our girls football, and provide more fixture opportunities for our Academy team.

There’s still time for local teams to enter the tournament, and entry costs just £20 per team.  If you’re interested, contact Georgia Bowie at gbowie@priestfield.com or 01634 623 411 by Monday, February 13.

The day will be held at Victory Academy, Magpie Hall Road, Chatham, Kent, ME4 5JB.

As part of our female football opportunities, we also run a weekly fun and friendly session during term time for girls aged 11-13 on Tuesdays, 6.30pm at Strood Sports Centre.  Find out more – no experience necessary!
