GILLS SIGN BINGHAM

Gillingham have clinched the signing of defensive midfielder Billy Bingham on a two-year deal.

The 27-year-old left Crewe Alexandra at the end of last season and manager Ady Pennock has been impressed by Bingham’s performances while on trial at MEMS Priestfield Stadium, providing the cross for Luke O’Neill’s goal against Dover on Saturday.

Bingham began his career in the youth ranks at Crystal Palace but on leaving the Eagles in 2009 he joined Dagenham & Redbridge where he played alongside Josh Parker, enjoying loan spells in the meantime at Sutton United and Grays Athletic.

Crewe captured his signature in the summer of 2015 and Bingham went on to make 55 appearances for the club, scoring one goal.

Speaking to the club website after signing his contract he said: “I’m buzzing to be here; I’ve been here on trial for the last week. The boys are great, I’m close to home and I’m delighted because it’s a big club.

“I can’t wait for August the fifth.”

A full interview with Billy will be on iFollow tomorrow.
