Gills boss delivers his verdict following Rotherham win.
Steve Lovell heaped praise on his Gillingham side after watching his team secure back to back away wins with a 3-1 victory over Rotherham at the New York Stadium on Saturday.
Josh Parker scored twice and Tom Eaves netted his sixth of the season as Gills stunned the home fans with an excellent display.
After the match Lovell said: “I’m very pleased with the performance and the result.
“The early goal changed things for us. It gives everybody a lift when you score, go in front, and it gives you something to hang onto. It wasn’t a case of that, we hung on, but we looked like scoring every time we got the ball in midfield and went forward.
“The boys are very good on the ball and they’ve proved that and the big thing is that they’re enjoying it.”
The club’s caretaker boss was delighted with the collective effort shown and said his players deserved all three points.
He said: “I thought the boys worked very hard and we defended well, which we had to at times, but we started the game brightly which was our plan and we broke away a few times in the first half on the counter and got a few chances.
“You can pick out individuals but it’s 11 people going on the pitch and if everybody does what they have to do then we haven’t got a problem. If one or two let the others down then you are going to have problems but that wasn’t the case today.
“That’s the benchmark. You’ve got to roll your sleeves up, work hard and give everything and the quality on the ball will come.
“At times we played some lovely stuff and beat a good side. It was an excellent result and an excellent performance.”
