PETERBOROUGH V GILLINGHAM

Sky Bet League One

The ABAX Stadium

Saturday October 14

Kick-Off, 3pm

Team News:

Steve Lovell will be without Alex Lacey (knee), Ben Nugent (foot), Luke O’Neill (hamstring) and Tom Eaves (suspended) for the trip to Peterborough.

Scott Wagstaff and Bradley Garmston played 45 minutes against Phoenix in the Kent Senior Cup during the week and both could be part of the squad.

Mark Byrne is back from his one game ban while Gabriel Zakuani is available after returning from international duty.

As for Peterborough Junior Morais is the club’s only definite absentee due to a thigh injury.

Gwion Edwards has recovered from a groin problem and Callum Chettle is fit again following a hamstring injury.

Manager Comments:

Grant McCann – “The gap to the top two has grown quickly and obviously we don’t want it to get any bigger. Teams have closed up behind us as well so it’s important we get back to winning ways on Saturday."

Steve Lovell - "We will approach the game in a positive frame of mind and work as a team. We need to start getting points. I will do it the way I want to do it; I will play a formation the way I want to play and we will roll our sleeves up and have a go.

“It will be different; my style is my own. I have a way of playing that I enjoy and I think players will enjoy and will express themselves.”

We’ve met before:

The clubs last met in March earlier this year at MEMS Priestfield Stadium where Junior Morais scored in the last minute to clinch all three points for the Posh in a 1-0 win.

The return game, on Boxing Day 2016, saw Gills grab a point at the death at London Road with on-loan Baily Cargil finding the net to cancel out Lee Angol’s opener 12 minutes earlier.

In total the teams have met on 46 occasions. Peterborough have the slight edge when it comes to the statistics with 14 wins to 13.

Odds:

Peterborough win – 1/2

Draw – 7/2

Gills win – 5/1

Special: Josh Parker to score first in a 2-1 Gillingham victory – 100/1.
