Gillingham FC nominated for medicine and performance award

Gillingham among three clubs to be nominated for League 1 award.

Gillingham FC has been nominated for the League 1 Medicine and Performance Team Members award of the year by the Football Medical Association.

The club were made aware of the nomination on Saturday and have made the shortlist for the final three teams, the other clubs being Shrewsbury Town and Plymouth Argyle.

This award is designed to recognise the exceptional contribution of a medical and performance team within a Club.

That the award comes from fellow peers in the game makes this is a particularly rewarding accolade.

The club would like to thank all full-time members of staff who have worked tirelessly to deserve such recognition; in addition we are grateful to a number of personnel who join the senior staff on a regular basis to assist in their day-to-day duties:

BARRY ROYDEN (Soft-tissue therapist)

JAMES FULLER (GPS Analyst)

WATHIK EL ALAMI (Team Doctor)

JAMES BURGESS (Chiropractor)

STEVE GRAY (Podiatrist)

We would also like to thank all of the members of the emergency matchday medical team:

ZUBAIR BHAT (Crowd Doctor)

TAHIR BHAT (Crowd Doctor)

PARAMEDICS (Mike Stephens and team)

STRETCHER BEARERS AND ST. JOHN’S AMBULANCE PERSONNEL

Furthermore we would like to extend our thanks to the following institutions for their ongoing support throughout the season.

SPORTS LAB (Supplier of GPS and player tracking units)

KIMS HOSPITAL

UNIVERSITY OF KENT

Gary Hemens (Head of Sports Science and medicine) & James Russell (First-team fitness coach) would like to add a special thanks to the Chairman, players and management team for their collaboration and belief in their approach. Without their buy-in, such recognition would not be possible.
