BARNSLEY V GILLINGHAM

Oakwell

Sky Bet League 1

Saturday September 1

Kick-off, 3pm

Team News:

Regan Charles-Cook, Mark Byrne and Dean Parrett (hamstrings) will miss the trip to Barnsley but Josh Rees (ankle) will return to the matchday squad after scoring twice in Monday’s 7-1 win over Luton.

Bradley Stevenson and Navid Nasseri are pushing for a starting place, as is Elliott List who came off the bench to score against Coventry last week.

New Barnsley striker Cauley Woodrow will undergo a late fitness test ahead of, what could be, his debut.

Woodrow, who has a muscle injury, signed from Fulham last week.

Full-back Dimitri Cavare could be involved but winger Lloyd Isgrove is still a week away from returning to training. Midfielder Ryan Hedges, who is yet to feature this season, remains sidelined through injury.

Manager Comments:

Andreas Winkler (Assistant Head Coach): “We don’t feel the expectations; the squad is very happy to play here at Oakwell and show how they can perform at the stadium and in front of the supporters.”

Steve Lovell: "It’s a good club, its always been a good club and they’ve got very good players who will cause us problems on Saturday so we’ve got to be aware of it, we’ve got to make sure that we cause them problems."

Previous Meetings:

The Gills last met Barnsley on Saturday February 13 in 2016 at the Medway Priestfield Stadium in a match where Gills took away all three points, defeating The Reds with a 2-1 result thanks to goals from Dominic Samuel and Bradley Dack.

The reverse fixture, at Oakwell, resulted in a 2-0 defeat as Ben Pearson and Sam Winnall both found the target. In total the sides have met on 30 occasions; Barnsley edge the statistics with 14 wins to seven.

Odds:

Barnsley win – 2/5

Draw – 18/5

Gills win – 13/2

Special Bet: Tom Eaves to score first in a 2-2 draw – 105/1.
