Tom Eaves pushing for a start as Gills prepare to welcome Burton to Priestfield.
GILLINGHAM V BURTON ALBION
The Medway Priestfield Stadium
Sky Bet League One
Saturday August 11, 3pm
Team News:
Having played and scored in the friendly against Oxford on Tuesday, Tom Eaves will be pushing to start the game having suffered from an ankle issue. Alex Lacey, Conor Wilkinson and Elliot List missed last Saturday’s victory but are back in training. Callum Reilly is a week away from being fully fit whilst Josh Rees could be at least a couple of weeks.
For Burton, manager Nigel Clough confirmed that none of his players came out of last Saturday’s defeat to Rochdale with any injury worries. However, Jamie Allen is a doubt to feature in Saturday’s game as he has struggled with back seizures during training. Defender Jake Buxton has been carrying a couple of knocks but will be hopeful of making the match day squad.
Manager Comments:
Steve Lovell - “Rochdale beat Burton last weekend but Burton looked good and they will cause us problems. They have quality players, we need to be at our best.
“Last year we got performances here, but not the results. It’s good to have Billy back and we had him in mind right up to Saturday.”
Nigel Clough - “Everybody is not quite fully fit but we are getting there and we are in a better position than we were two or three weeks ago.”
Previous Meetings:
The two sides have met nine times; with both winning four times and one ending in a draw.
The last time the Gills defeated the Brewers was in October 2012, as they thumped them 4-1 in the League 2 promotion winning season.
Matt Fish and Tom Flanagan were both on target that day.
Odds:
Gillingham win - 7/5
Draw - 9/4
Burton Albion win - 2/1
Special Bet - Regan Charles-Cook to score first and Gillingham to win 2-1 -
