Gills sub comes off the bench to score important equaliser.
Elliott List was pleased to get off the mark for the season as he netted a second half equaliser in front of the Rainham End to help Gillingham draw 1-1 with Coventry City at the Medway Priestfield Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Speaking after the game, it was mixed emotions for List who replaced Regan-Charles Cook after the midfielder went off injured in the first half.
“We’re a little bit disappointed," he said. "We didn’t play as well as we wanted too. But we’ve manged to get a point and hold on to it. The positives are we haven’t lost a game and we’ve got another point on the board.”
With Gills chasing the game, List did brilliantly to shrug off multiple challenges down the left flank and smash in an equaliser to draw the Gills level.
“I saw a gap and thought I’d go for it and thankfully it went in,” he added. "I literally saw a yard and thought I’ve got to try and put it through his legs low and hard. It’s probably one of the best goals I’ve scored.”
The point leaves Gills in ninth place having picked up seven points from the opening five games and List believes that there is still more to come from his Gills team-mates as they aim on improving on last season’s 17th place.
He said: “We want to push as high as we can, all the boys in the dressing room believe we can get to the top six and we want to get there – that’s our aim.”
