Ben White reacts following 1-1 draw with Leyton Orient.
Gills Youth Team Coach Ben White said he was pleased with the application of his players following the 1-1 draw with Leyton Orient on Saturday.
Ben was taking charge of his first game at Beechings following his appointment, and a point was earned thanks to Leroy Hlabi’s second half effort with Hector Kryprianou having given Orient the lead shortly after the restart.
The club’s latest addition to the coaching staff has only had a couple of training sessions with his new squad but has seen plenty of positive signs.
Speaking to the club website he said: “I’m very pleased with the attitude the boys showed. I was disappointed in the first half that we didn’t take more of our chances; I thought we created quite a lot in the first half and kept them quiet and it’s important to take chances when you get them.
“In the second half they came into it a little bit more, obviously went 1-0 up and we reacted really well. Towards the end we had the odd opportunity to go and win it but generally I was really pleased with the application.
“It was a great finish from Leroy and on a personal level I’m made up for him.
“I’m happy with the first game and the first week; the worth ethic is strong and I’m not surprised with that. That is the minimum expectation and they have that in abundance. “
