Gills right-back delighted with victory and loving the atmosphere in the dressing room.
Luke O’Neill was delighted as he spoke to the media after the 2-1 win over Fleetwood Town having secured man of the match with another commanding performance in defence and moving forward down the right flank.
“You can see that out there that we’re full of confidence," he said. "Even though we went one-nil down, we were clinical. It was a great three points and you could see after the game what it meant to us.
“It shows the character we’ve got, the leaders that are out there – it’s really enjoyable at the minute, there’s a great atmosphere about the place and hopefully that can continue.
“The lads have been top drawer and the confidence is very good. I feel we can go into any game and win. I’m enjoying my football – playing with the boys and under the gaffer and the staff here – I’ve got more to bring and I want to get better.”
O’Neill added corner-taking to his roster of set pieces, and even volunteered to take the penalty in added time, commenting:
“I’ll always put my hand up – [Lee] Martin told me to get on them and whip them into the keeper.
“[On the winning penalty] Eaves had scored one and so was full of confidence. I’ve put my hand up to take one and Byrner is also quite good at them.”
Finally, O’Neill touched on the wild celebrations after the winning goal.
“I was in amongst it, and it was a good feeling. We’ll take all three points – we’re just buzzing!”
