Lovell: "The performance deserved more"

Manager full of praise for his players on "frustrating" afternoon.

Steve Lovell said he couldn’t have asked any more from his players following Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Bradford.

Dominic Poleon scored the decisive goal shortly after the interval, and despite enjoying plenty of possession and going close on a number of occasions, Gills were unable to find an equaliser.

The Gills boss said it was a frustrating afternoon but said his players gave everything from start to finish.

He said: “One word I said in there [the dressing room] was frustration. I thought we gave it a good go, played well, had a lot of possession and lots of attempts at goal and just didn’t finish it off.

“I’m just disappointed because the performance deserved more than we got. They worked ever so hard and did everything that was asked of them.

“They have a shot on goal, one shot I think on target all game and it goes in. That’s the way it is.

"We just couldn’t get the ball in the back of the net.”

Lovell made two changes to the side that beat Portsmouth two weeks ago and the Manager was full of praise for both Bradley Garmston and Conor Wilkinson.

He added: “I thought Bradley did great on the left wing, he looked a threat every time he got the ball and Conor Wilkinson led the line well; the only thing missing was a goal. He had a really good game.

“The game has gone, we’ll prepare now for Thursday and hopefully get back on track.”
