Lovell | "We gave it everything"

Gaffer praises squad after fighting display at the Kassam.

Gills boss Steve Lovell said he was pleased with the performance over Oxford United, but felt disappointed in the way in which his side lost at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday.

A second-half penalty was converted by James Henry and, despite a late charge to grab an equaliser, Gillingham were unable to find a way past Simon Eastwood as the game finished 1-0.

After the game Steve said: “I thought we played well; we lose to a very dubious penalty. It looked worse than it was; we have a very good goal disallowed in the first-half through Regan when he wasn’t offside.

“We had our chances, we didn’t take them, they get the penalty and that was it. We threw everything at the end but didn’t get anything.

“We were creating chances, we had people out there who were causing them problems so there was no need to change it. We gave everything but just didn’t get the goal.”

More to come….
