Eaves on target once again as Gills clinch victory at Fratton Park.
Tom Eaves labelled his goal in the first-half as one of the best he has ever scored.
The big forward produced a moment of magic just before the half hour mark to set the Gills on their way to a vital three points at Fratton Park in a 2-0 win.
Speaking on his moment of magic Eaves said: “I was just trying to create something, I know when I get the ball in the box that I’ll score. I scored a goal quite similar to that in training this week, so it was already in the back of my mind – I’ve studied centre forwards and I am constantly watching videos and thankfully it came off. It’s probably one of the best I’ve scored – I just hope I can kick on now.”
Eaves believes the three points could help kick start the season again, following their first win since the second week of the campaign.
He said: “Honestly this is just the start – it shows what we can do on our day – the lads were brilliant from back to front, we defended well, and we were so solid at the back – I never felt like we would concede.”
Gills knew they’d be in for a tough second-half as the hosts went in search of maintaining their unbeaten record.
Eaves added: “Second-half was a different half to the first one, we played the counter attack football and it was a tough shift, but I felt like we managed the game really well.”
Following his late leveller last week Eaves was rewarded with a start and he was happy to prove his worth, netting his sixth goal of the season in the process.
He said: “I’m very pleased on a personal level – I always feel like I am going to score and it's nice that it came off. It's nice to express yourself out there.”
