Patto pleased to secure safety as Gills slip to 2-0 defeat at home to Charlton.
Goals from Joe Aribo and Josh Cullen helped the Addicks to three points in a 2-0 win at Priestfield as the Gills safety was confirmed in League One.
Despite the defeat Patterson believed that it was not through lack of effort. He said:
“No criticism about our effort and commitment, at times I think we played quite well. We gifted them two goals really, they’re a good team, there’s no doubt about that. They were in control for long periods of the game but the goals that we conceded, they were caused by a couple of ricochets and we didn’t defend them properly.”
With other results going in favour of the Gills, it meant that the club’s safety in League One was confirmed.
Patterson expressed his relief saying: “People say you can’t go down [before the game] but you can, it was very unlikely, but it’s a possibility. Until it's mathematically done, you can’t discount it. I'm pleased we’re safe.”
Mark was asked whether he would be interested in the job on a full-time basis and he replied:
“I do not want this job. I’ll happily work here as I enjoy working here but I don’t want to be manager.”
