Mark Byrne was substituted due to injury on Saturday.
Gills boss Steve Evans has revealed that Mark Byrne could be out for the rest of the season after tearing his ACL during Saturday's Sky Bet League 1 fixture against Sunderland.
The midfielder hobbled off towards the end of the first half and an initial scan has suggested Mark may miss the rest of the campaign.
Byrne will visit a specialist later this week to receive a more detailed prognosis.
The Manager said: "I think he might be out for the season. It's a torn ACL; it wasn't even contact, it was just the way he landed. I thought at the time it could be potentially serious, he got scanned on Monday and will see a consultant later in the week.
"He's done so well, he's been great and always gives you everything. It's a real shame. We are all gutted for him."
