Lovell reacts as Gills clinch victory at Adams Park.
Gills manager Steve Lovell was delighted with his team’s efforts following the 1-0 victory over Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park on Saturday.
Regan Charles-Cook, on as a substitute, scored the winning goal in the 83rd minute following great work from Brandon Hanlan on the right hand side of the penalty area.
Hanlan caused the hosts problems all afternoon and has been a key figure over the past three games and Lovell was thrilled with his performance.
“Brandon was excellent all game, he ran them ragged and that goal at the end for Regan was brilliant,” he said.
“The boys deserved to get the result today, deserved to get at least a draw out of it. To nick the win at the end of the game was the icing on the cake.
“It wasn’t a game to get the ball down and play, they matched us playing the diamond and tried to nullify our strengths. They did to a certain extent.
“A couple of wins lifts a club and the players but to be fair they haven’t needed lifting... they’ve done it themselves.”
The win has put the Gills five points clear of the relegation zone, but Lovell realises that March is a defining month for his side’s season.
“We’ve got a massive month in March coming up, playing against most of the boys who are down the bottom. They’re all going to be six pointers.”
There were 472 fans chanting the Gills on at Adams Park and Lovell was happy to send them home with something to celebrate.
“The supporters were brilliant. They kept behind us all game, it helps and I am really pleased that everyone can enjoy their Saturday night."
