Gills forward reacts after famous goal at Priestfield.
Man-of-the-match Elliott List described his goal as the best of moment of his career so far to get the winning contribution against Premier League Cardiff City at the Medway Priestfield Stadium.
List ran through his goal for the media after the game, commenting on how the keeper’s early movement made up his mind on where to shoot.
Gillingham went on to record a memorable 1-0 win.
“It came to me, I opened up and I was going to put it in the far corner but I saw the keeper opening up so I reversed it.
“When Eavesy passed it to me I always thought it was coming to me. I was delighted. I didn’t know where I was running to but I got dragged down and bundled down.
“That’s the best moment in my career so far, scoring against a Premier League side in the FA Cup. It was my mum’s birthday so that one is probably for her.
“We felt the Rainham End, the whole stadium really pushing us, and it really does make a difference.”
List also commented on the Gills’ strategy for the match and the belief they had going into the break all square.
“We knew we would have to soak up a lot of pressure and that they would have a lot of the ball, but we knew we could create chances going forward.
“The plan from the start was to not concede early and stay in the game for as long as possible.
“We can perform and beat big teams like that as long as everybody is doing their job and today we did that.
“Steve put us on the front foot [at half time] and it was a great decision to change the formation slightly.”
With the Gills securing their name in the hat for the fourth round, List revealed who he wanted in the draw.
“I want Man City away. It would be the stuff that dreams are made of and you never know what can happen. I’m an Arsenal fan, but I think they’re [City] the best team in the country at the minute.”
