New signing arrives at Priestfield.
Jack Bonham has become Steve Evans’ second summer signing, and the former Brentford goalkeeper is excited to be on board at Priestfield.
Bonham joins the Gills on a two-year deal having had previous loan spells at Carlisle United and Bristol Rovers, and admitted that Evans played a big role in him signing for the club.
“I came and spoke to the manager two weeks ago and he really sold the club to me and he as a person really made the move possible,” Jack said.
“I spoke to him about his ambitions and the ambition of the club and it matched mine. It’s a fresh start for me and also for the club.”
Bonham played a key role in ensuring Bristol Rovers survived in League 1 last season and feels that he can continue to grow as a player with the Gills.
“The past two years I have been really consistent, last year I had 15 clean sheets in 39 league appearances so I’d like to think of myself as a consistent goalkeeper,” he added. “I’ve still got things to work on and get better at. Hopefully I bring my best to Gillingham.”
The 25-year old believes that with Steve Evans in charge the Gills can push on from last year and set their targets above a mid-table finish.
Bonham added: “The way he’s spoken and the way he wants to work and the players he wants to bring in shows that the ultimate aim is the play-offs and beyond that. We are capable of coming that far.”
Bonham was open on his desire to play at Priestfield and is excited to play in front of the fans at ME7.
“It’s a great place to come and play here as the atmosphere is really good,” he said.
“I’m delighted to be here and it’s a great club to be at and to sign somewhere permanently than being on loan is a big deal for me. I can settle down and really concentrate on my football now.”
