The Gills will begin their Carabao Cup campaign at home.
Gillingham will play Newport County at MEMS Priestfield Stadium in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
Steve Evans and his team will welcome the Welsh club to Kent, who reached the play-off semi-finals last season in Sky Bet League 2 under the management of former Gills midfielder Michael Flynn.
The tie is due to take place a few days after the club’s opening home league fixture of the season, which will take place against Burton Albion at Priestfield on Saturday August 10.
All EFL fixtures were announced at 9am on Thursday, with Gills facing an opening day trip to Doncaster who were beaten in the League 1 play-off semi finals by Charlton last month, who then went on to beat Sunderland in the final at Wembley.
The date of the fixture, along with ticket information, will be announced in due course.
