Jamie Raynor has added a new goalkeeper to his group.
Gillingham Ladies have captured the signing of former club goalkeeper Courtney Shanly, for the rest of the club’s 2019-20 FA Women’s National League season.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper spent five seasons at Gillingham, before taking a year's break from football, but has now re-joined the club.
Speaking to the media upon her return, Shanly expressed her excitement for Gillingham’s team this season:
“There is still a solid core here from when I was at the club before, and with new signings this season, it has further progressed the team. A lot of the girls have played at a high level in women’s football, so we have a good team full of experience. Gills are doing well in the league currently, so it will good to see how far we can go.”
Asked why she decided to return to Gillingham, Shanly said;
“Gillingham Ladies have a good ethos, everybody is nice and supportive at the club. I have always enjoyed the football here and the team’s togetherness off the pitch.”
Shanley was asked about the growth of women's football, she replied:
"It has grown leaps and bounds from when I first started playing football. There is a lot more coverage on the sport and more girls are getting involved within the game, which is really good."
Courtney Shanly will look to be in the squad for Gillingham Ladies next match, which is against Kent Football United away from home on November 17th.
