Former Championship midfielder signs deal at MEMS Priestfield Stadium.
Gillingham have won the hotly contested race to sign highly rated 24-year-old former Championship midfielder Kyle Dempsey.
After scoring 11 times in 51 appearances for the Cumbrians, and winning the club’s Player of the Year in 2015, he joined Huddersfield Town for a significant six figure sum.
The creative midfielder played 24 matches for his parent club before Fleetwood Town signed the creative forward man on a season-long loan in August 2016, and agreed a permanent three-year contract 12 months later.
While at Highbury, in total, he made 146 appearances and was a regular star performer. During his time up north he also enjoyed a brief loan spell with Peterborough United during the 2018/19 campaign, playing under Steve Evans in the process.
The Gills boss, who has been chasing the talented midfielder since last year, was absolutely delighted to finally secure Dempsey’s signature, telling the club’s official website:
"Kyle is a top talent and we are delighted he has chosen us over some very big clubs in League 1. I met his parents and, believe me, the family are salt of the earth, really genuine people.
"They wanted their boy to join a manager who believed in him fully and I am delighted he is here.
"He is simply a superb signing."
Kyle added: "I'm delighted to come down here and start a new chapter in my life. After speaking to the Gaffer last week everything was said to me in a positive way; I'm 24 years old and I needed to pick the right club where I felt I would develop my Football the most."
