Trae Coyle determined to make impact as busy festive period approaches.
Arsenal loanee Trae Coyle struck the winner with lethal precision against Swindon on Saturday to make it three league wins on the spin, and says he is ready to keep helping the team as they face a hectic festive schedule.
The striker said after the 2-0 league victory: “We will be trying to get as many points as we can over the next couple of weeks and hopefully that will stand us in good stead.
“This Christmas period is going to be tough; there’s a lot of games in a short period of time. The Gaffer’s made it clear to us that going into this period on a good run of form and winning games will be massive on the season. It makes a big difference on the league table because there are so many games in a short space of time.
“There are a lot of matches crammed together and we all have to keep fit so we have as many players available as possible. It will be the toughest part of the season, but I am looking forward to it.”
Trae, with the Gunners since he was eight, stayed cool, calm and composed as he latched on to a clever Dominic Samuel pass, darted towards goal and expertly finished from the edge of the box to finally put the game beyond a stubborn Swindon.
He said: “It was a great pass from Dom. I had a lot of time and I never doubted myself.
“I feel like I am quite confident in front of goal. It was a good chance, I’d say it was an easy chance, I’m delighted.
“We had a tough five games where we struggled to get any points. Now it is the opposite and we are doing really well. Hopefully we can continue this.”
Next up for Gillingham is a slice of cup action on Tuesday night in the Papa John’s EFL Trophy where they meet Sky Bet League Two side Cambridge, and Coyle is eager for another chance to add to his goal tally.
He said: “If I get the chance to play, I’ll give my all again and hope that I can affect the game. It’s another competition we want to go far in. I will do everything to try and win.”
