Gaffer among the nominees for November award.
Gills manager Steve Evans has been nominated for the Sky Bet League One Manager of the Month award, following an impressive unbeaten league run in November.
It was a positive start to the month for Gillingham which began with three points. John Akinde came off the bench to give the Kent side a deserved 1-0 victory away to Crewe, thanks largely to an impressive display from the back-line.
A hard-fought 1-1 home draw with promotion-chasing Charlton followed, which saw Gills keeper Jack Bonham expertly save Conor Washington’s penalty. Jordan Graham made no mistake with his spot kick, after John Akinde was fouled in the box, putting Gillingham ahead. Chucks Aneke equalised late on for the South London side but the credible draw kept Gills unbeaten in November.
Gillingham then triumphed against AFC Wimbledon at MEMS Priestfield Stadium to make it seven points from three games as they continued to climb the table. Kyle Dempsey struck early for the hosts before Ben Heneghan levelled for the Dons. Dominic Samuel’s powerful second-half volley put the Gills 2-1 ahead, ensuring the full three points as well as finally bringing an end to an unwanted five-year winless league run on Tuesday nights.
Steve Evans’ team have taken their excellent league form into December with 2-0 wins over both Swindon and Bristol Rovers, meaning they are now unbeaten in five.
Accrington Stanley’s John Coleman, Kenny Jackett of Portsmouth and Hull City boss Grant McCann are the other nominees, with the winner announced on Friday 11 December.
