Club to hold virtual Player of the Year awards event

Gills will take to Zoom to conduct a virtual Player of the Year awards evening on July 31.

Gillingham Football Club’s online `Player of the Year` event will be broadcast at 6pm on Friday July 31.

The club has decided to hold a virtual event this year for the first time, as opposed to the traditional in-person dinner/dance evening inside The Great Hall at MEMS Priestfield Stadium, due to the impact of COVID.

Chairman Paul Scally, Manager Steve Evans, Assistant boss Paul Raynor and BBC Radio Kent co-commentator, Peter Lloyd, will be a part of the team hosting the event with selected first-team squad members joining them for the duration of the ceremony.

Seven awards will be handed out in total via Zoom and supporters will be able to watch proceedings via YouTube from 6pm* on Friday night.

From this time we will be performing live text commentary on both Twitter and Facebook, announcing the winners as they are presented on screen. After which we will do a round-up piece on the club’s official website.

Awards to be presented are as follows:

Away Supporters' Player of the Year

Goal of the Season

The Chairman's Cup

Players' Player of the Year

MEMS Player of the Year

Young Player of the Year

Player of the Year
