It's down to the fans to choose their Player of the Year.
It's that time of year again!
Gills supporters can now submit their votes to choose the 2019/20 `Player of the Year. `
An overwhelming majority of clubs chose to formally end the season last month due to the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning the Gills finished 10th in the Sky Bet League 1 table, nine points shy of the play-offs.
Under the management of Steve Evans the team secured some excellent results and were within touch of the top six when the campaign was curtailed. The club also reached the third round of the Emirates FA Cup, losing out 2-0 to Premier League side West Ham United at home in early January.
Our last game before the season ended was a 2-2 draw against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light when Mikael Mandron struck with the last kick of the game to secure a point.
Traditionally, the club holds an end of season awards ceremony inside the Great Hall at MEMS Priestfield Stadium to present trophies to the successful recipients, but due to the fact that will not be possible this year, the club plans to hold an online virtual event. More details regarding the time and format will be revealed at a later date.
However, voting for the main award is now open with immediate effect, and the process couldn’t be simpler.
To cast your vote, all you need to do is email media@priestfield.com with your player selection, with `Player of the Year` placed within the subject heading of your message. You may only vote once, your chosen player must have featured in at least 20 games, and the winner will not be revealed until the evening of the ceremony.
Barry Fuller won the main award at last year's event, with Mark Byrne taking the glory at the end of the 2017/18 season.
The deadline for voting is 5pm on July 21.
