New signing happy to be back at Priestfield after signing permanent deal.
Dominic Samuel says he is delighted to be back at MEMS Priestfield Stadium and is looking forward to helping the club achieve its targets.
The 26-year-old striker put pen to paper on Monday afternoon, and could be in the squad for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie at Stoke City.
The former Blackburn Rovers forward returns to Kent for a second spell at the club, having played 25 times for Gills during a loan spell from Reading during the 2015-16 campaign.
Speaking to the club website he said: “It was a no brainer to be fair; during my last loan spell here a few years ago I did well. I’m quite familiar with the fans and I felt it was the right choice at this time.
“It comes down to where you feel most comfortable. The Gaffer made me feel so welcome and like I belong here and there will be great success.
“You have to go where your heart is; you want to be playing games. It’s nice having clubs come in for you, but I want to play.”
The striker was asked if being familiar with the club, and being a touch closer to home, helped in his decision making. He added:
“Yes, because you know what you are going to get. When you have been somewhere before it does make things easier.
“I know Ryan Jackson from when I was here last time, I am quite close with him and he told me there was a good bunch of lads here. All of the clubs I’ve been at, I’ve always been quite far away from family and friends. When you are happy off the pitch, you can bring that onto the pitch too.”
