Gills sign Scott Robertson on loan

Steve Evans has added to his midfield options with the capture of Scott Robertson from Glasgow Celtic.

Gillingham have completed the season-long loan signing of highly rated Glasgow Celtic central midfielder player, Scott Robertson.

The 19-year-old, who recently signed a contract extension at Parkhead until the summer of 2023, is highly thought of by the Scottish Premier League giants and made his professional debut in an Europa League tie in December last year, starting against CFR Cluj.

There is no doubt he is in Neil Lennon’s long-term plans at Celtic Park and this loan move to MEMS Priestfield Stadium was sanctioned and hand picked by the Celtic Manager.  A number of clubs north and south of the border wanted the player, but for now he is a Gill.

Robertson has signed in time to be eligible for Gillingham’s first league match of the 2020/21 season, which will take place against Hull City at Priestfield this coming Saturday (3pm).

Having tracked the exciting youngster for a number of weeks, manager Steve Evans was delighted to finally get a deal over the line, saying:

“I am incredibly pleased to get Scott to Priestfield. He is somebody I have watched several times and I’m very grateful to my friend Neil Lennon for believing we are the right place for Scott to continue his football development.

“We look forward to working with him and his addition will provide strong competition for places in our midfield. He is young, hungry, incredibly talented and I have no doubt the supporters will enjoy watching him as the season progresses. I thank the Chairman for getting a deal in place and he will be in contention for a place this weekend.”

Scott added: “I’m buzzing to get started. I had a chat with the Gaffer at Celtic and this seemed like the perfect fit for me.

“For someone my age, being 19, getting regular first-team Football is always important. I’m delighted to be here.”
