Ryan Jackson says the squad will need to be ready for a stern test when Northampton visit ME7 on Saturday.
Right-back Ryan Jackson issued a rallying cry ahead of Gillingham’s Sky Bet League One clash with Northampton this Saturday.
The hard-working defender is adamant that the Gills will never give up pursuing a place in the top six whilst there is still a chance, no matter how slight, and they will continue to battle against the odds to get where they want to be.
Rather than licking their wounds after the cruel 3-2 loss at Oxford, the Gills roared back with an impressive win over Posh on Tuesday and Jackson is determined to keep that fighting spirit until they hear the last whistle on the last day of the season, in the hopes that the remarkable might just happen.
Speaking with local press on Zoom ahead of this weekend’s game, he said: “We want to build on Tuesday’s result. The play-offs are not mathematically impossible; we know that if we string a few good results together and it somehow falls our way in terms of other results then you never know.
“The boys are pretty confident and we know what we are capable of. It is about trying to replicate our good performances and turning them into three points.
“Saturday will be another tough one, Northampton are trying to survive and stay in the league. They have just come off the back of a good result so we will need to be at it. It should be a good game but hopefully we are the ones coming away with three points.
“Our stadium is a ground that depends on its fans, they are like a 12th man on the pitch but we have managed a way to win games and hopefully we can do that this Saturday.
"There is no better feeling than playing for something. We want to perform to the best of our abilities and maximise our points and see where it takes us.”
