Gills clinch loan signing of Dan Adshead

New addition made ahead of Saturday's home fixture.

Steve Evans has moved into the market to secure the signature of Dan Adshead on loan from Premier League side Norwich City.

The midfielder, who turns 20 next month, has joined the Gills with immediate effect and is available for selection ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet League 1 fixture at home to Morecambe.

Dan, who came through the youth system at Rochdale, made 25 appearances for the club prior to signing for Norwich for an undisclosed fee in 2019. The initial figure reported at the time externally was in the region of £300,000 - £500,000.

In 2020 the youngster joined Dutch club, SC Telstar, on loan for the remainder of the 2020-21 season, featuring 28 times in the league before returning to Carrow Road.

He has represented England at U18 and U19 level and was named the EFL League 1 Young Apprentice of the Year in April 2019.

He came on as a late sub against Gills in the club’s pre-season friendly in Norfolk earlier this month.

On capturing his signature, the Gaffer said: “Dan is a very talented lad with great energy.

“He was outstanding in Holland and during his time at Rochdale he was sought after by a number of clubs.

“I would like to acknowledge the support of Stuart Webber, my friend Daniel Farke, and all at Norwich City for their help in making this deal happen."

The player has been assigned squad number 16 and a full interview will be available on the club website in due course.
