Full-back chats to the media ahead of Portsmouth trip.
Ryan Jackson is determined to come out on top at Fratton Park as the Gills look to “bounce back” after Tuesday’s 1-0 loss to Wimbledon.
Gillingham’s right-back stressed the importance of regrouping against Portsmouth on Saturday and showing supporters exactly what the team are capable of.
Speaking with the media ahead of the game, Jackson said: “I’m not one for excuses. We need to do better as players, as individuals and as a team. It’s not an ideal season but everyone has the same games. It’s down to us to show focus and build on the good results we do have.
“We had a meeting after the Wimbledon loss and a few people spoke up. We were disappointed and there were some home truths and a bit of honesty from the boys. We got it all out and hopefully it doesn’t happen again. We are going to strive for three points every game. Hopefully we can turn things around.
“It is frustrating because we know what we are capable of. We can’t dwell on it. We need to identify the reasons why and try and do as best as we can.”
Gillingham slipped further away from those coveted play-offs places and currently sit 15th in the table. Jackson, however, is not quite ready to admit defeat but knows his team need to start a winning run sooner rather than later.
He said: “We are an ambitious team and we want to be playing for something. Hopefully we can string some good results together. Reaching the play-offs is going to be difficult but nothing is impossible.
“We are buzzing for Saturday. Fratton Park is an exciting place to go. We are especially up for it after Tuesday’s result. We want to bounce back and put things right. If we can perform like we did against Charlton then I am sure we will be able to get a result.”
