Alex MacDonald signs new contract

Contract extension for Gills midfielder.

Alex MacDonald has agreed a new contract with the club ahead of the 2021/22 Sky Bet League 1 season.

The 31-year-old, formerly of Oxford and Mansfield, joined the Gills in the summer of 2020 on a one-year deal and played 45 games in all competitions, scoring once, against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in a 2-2 draw in January.

Alex, and fellow midfielder Stuart O'Keefe, both agreed new deals last week, shortly after the final game of the season against Plymouth. This was confirmed within the club's retained list, announced by manager Steve Evans.

On signing his new contract, Alex said: "I'm delighted to be staying at the Gills. I'm excited for next season and seeing the fans; I have an excellent relationship with the manager and Paul Raynor, they trust me and I trust them.

"It was done within two days, I signed, and am now back up north for some rest."

A full interview with Alex will be on the club website soon.
