Local schools take place in tournament at ME7.
With the football season over, GFC students jumped at the chance of stepping onto the turf at MEMS Priestfield Stadium and invited local schools to join them in an all-inclusive football tournament.
The event, attended by schools including Will Adams, ISP and Sally Gate, proved a triumph, with fun, friendship and fair play being the three big winners.
“I was really impressed with every participant; they all got fully involved,” enthused event organiser, and PE teacher, Craig Wildman. “There was a lot of positivity on the pitch today and it was great to see children of different backgrounds and abilities all coming together. Today was about building connections in the community and I think we definitely achieved that.”
The ten-minute 7-a-side games were played out in good spirit, with staff and students of competing schools sportingly cheering each other on from the sidelines.
“We have to say a big thankyou to The GFC School,” said Will Adams’ Acting Assistant Headteacher Emma Winn-Gordon. “Our students had a fantastic time and they already want to come back again next year. It was great to see our pupils involved; they were a credit to our school today.”
After the tournament finished, the school children saved just enough energy to mix their sides together to play a short friendly game across the full length of the pitch, where the feel-good energy continued until the referee’s final whistle of the day.
Visiting students left with a Gillingham FC goody bag, beaming faces and memories to last a lifetime.
