Stuart O'Keefe signs new contract

Experienced midfielder signs new contract.

Stuart O'Keefe has signed a new deal with the Gills ahead of the 2021/22 Sky Bet League 1 season.

The 30-year-old, whose current deal was set to expire on June 30, has put pen to paper on a new contract which extends his stay at MEMS Priestfield Stadium after initially joining the club on a two-year agreement in the summer of 2019.

The former Crystal Palace and Portsmouth man, who suffered a long-term injury early last season, returned earlier than expected to help Gills mount a late surge for the play-offs in the last third of the campaign.

The Gills defeated Plymouth 1-0 at ME7 on the final day, achieving a top ten finish, and manager Steve Evans wasted little time in offering a new deal to O'Keefe, which was signed last week, and confirmed in the official retained list.

Speaking to the club website, Stuart said: "It's nice to get it done, I'm happy at Gillingham. It made complete sense, we are a different animal to when I signed initially.

"I can now enjoy my summer and get ready for a hard pre-season."
