Victory on the opening day for Gills youth team.
Gills youth team got their league season off to the best possible start by defeating Sutton United 1-0 at Beechings Cross on Saturday.
Ronald Sithole scored what proved to be the winner early in the first half when he robbed a defender of possession, drove towards goal and produced a clinical finish into the back of the net from 15 yards.
Mark Moss’s men had opportunities to extend their advantage, but eventually settled for a one goal victory.
Speaking to the club website Mark said: "We got off to a really good start and scored a goal in four minutes off a really good press. Ronald pressed the centre-back, took the ball off him and finished really well. It's something we work on and we knew if we got after them we could win it back in good areas. He showed good composure in front of goal to finish.
"We made some chances after that and I thought some of our Football was really good although we were a little bit loose out of possession at times but some of our Football in possession was really good.
"We were pretty solid in the first half, we had two or three really good chances and probably should have finished the game. In the second half we looked in two minds as to whether to go for a second goal or whether to sit on what we had, and it ended up being a bit of neither.
"We ended up too deep, not looking after the ball well enough and ultimately, although we weren't conceding lots of chances, we didn't have as much of the ball as we would like and we didn't play as well as we would like."
