Gills youngsters head out on work experience

Jo Gbode, Sam Gale, Alex Giles, Ethan Smith and Tom Crump have all gone out on short term deals.

Five members of the club's youth team have headed out on work experience terms.

Joe Gbode, 16, has signed for Margate on a one-month deal and came off the bench during Gate's 1-0 win over Horsham at Hartsdown Park on Saturday, setting up the winning goal in stoppage time. The striker played for the Gills three times earlier in the season, coming off the bench against Cheltenham twice (once away in the FA Cup and once at home in the league) while also being a substitute at Crewe in November. 

Goalkeeper Tom Crump has joined Barking FC, and is in contention to start for his new club on Tuesday evening against Concord Rangers. He featured for Gills in the Kent Senior Cup earlier this season away at Whitstable, and started in goal for the club's FA Youth Cup tie at Sutton.

Midfielder, Ethan Smith, started for Sittingbourne on Saturday and impressed despite the team losing 1-0 at home to Chichester. He has been a regular for the U18's and also featured in the aforementioned Kent Cup tie at the Belmont.

Alex Giles, who has been a regular in the youth team at centre-back this season, signed for Faversham Town and he won on his debut, with the Whites beating Burgess Hill 2-0 at Salters Lane.

And finally, Sam Gale, 17, joined Lordswood and started his first game. Unfortunately his new team were beaten at home 2-0 by Kennington. Sam made his first-team debut at home to Cheltenham in November, replacing Dan Phillips in midfield.
