Morecambe v Gillingham

Sky Bet League One

Mazuma Stadium

Saturday February 12th

Kick-Off, 3pm

Team News:

Gills will be without Danny Lloyd for the rest of the season after he tore his cruciate ligaments in the defeat to Ipswich. Mustapha Carayol will likely remain out as he continues to get over a knock to his knee, however he is pushing for selection.

Gerald Sithole missed the win over Cambridge due to a hamstring injury but will return to the matchday squad if he is fit. If Sithole is not ready to go, academy player Josh Chambers could be part of the squad once again.

Trevor Carson is likely to retain his place in goal for the Shrimps, having returned from injury at Lincoln. Ryan McLaughlin will remain out.

Adam Phillips will be a late fitness decision after coming down with an illness late in the week. Aaron Wildig will be back in contention to play for Stephen Robinson’s side.

Manager Comments:

Neil Harris - "Away from home we have to make sure we manage games well.

"Morecambe is a tough place to go. It will be a competitive game, physically we need to be strong.

"We need to win more games, we know that, but it's my job to take pressure off the players."

Stephen Robinson - “We’ve got to finish one place above that bottom four. That’s all we have to aim for, and for me that would be the biggest achievement of my managerial career.

“It’s a huge task to stay in this division. Do I think that we can? I certainly do.”

Previous Meetings:

When the two sides met at the MEMS Priesfield Stadium earlier in the season, it was the Gills that were victorious. Mustapha Carayol gave Gillingham an early lead as his thunderous strike found the bottom corner.

Cole Stockton brought Morecambe back onto level terms after a fine finish from 18 yards out. However, Gills won a penalty with a little over ten minutes remaining, and it was Vadaine Oliver that converted to secure all three points.

You will have to go back to the club’s title-winning season under Martin Allen for Gillingham’s last game at Morecambe. Jack Redshaw put The Shrimps in front shortly before half-time, but Gills struck back seven minutes after the break.

Bradley Dack’s left-footed shot found the bottom corner as he scored his first-ever professional league goal. The points were shared as the final score ended 1-1.
