Lewis Walker signs for Gills

Neil Harris has added a striker to his squad ahead of Saturday's season opening Sky Bet League 2 fixture against AFC Wimbledon.

The club is delighted to announce the signing of striker Lewis Walker.

The 24-year-old forward joins the Gills on a permanent basis following a trial spell earlier in the month.

Lewis, the son of former England centre-back Des, began his career with Ilkestone before joining Derby County in the summer of 2016. He made his debut for the U23 side in an EFL Trophy fixture in August of that year, and also spent time on loan at Darlington.

In November 2018 the forward signed for QPR's U23 team but also featured four times for the first-team in the Championship towards the end of the season, starting against Nottingham Forest at Loftus Road.

During 2019-20, Walker spent a spell on loan at Aldershot before electing to go on trial with Como in Italy, where he succeeded in earning a two-year contract. The club won promotion to Serie B in his first season, but he left in order to pursue a new challenge with Athletic Carpi.

We officially welcome Lewis to MEMS Priestfield Stadium.

* The move, along with eligibility for Saturday's game at AFC Wimbledon, is subject to EFL ratification and international clearance.
